Ryan Haasch

Ryan Haasch is the Executive Director at Voyageurs Expeditionary School in Bemidji, MN. Growing up in the Bemidji area on the Leech Lake Reservation and later attending Bemidji High School, Youthbuild, and Cass Lake ALC, Ryan knows firsthand the power of alternative education and the difference strong relationships and personalized learning can make in a student’s life. That experience sparked his passion for education and set him on a path that has now spanned more than 20 years. Ryan first joined Voyageurs as a teacher during the 2011–2012 school year, and after nearly a decade of leadership roles in alternative and charter schools in the Twin Cities metro area, returned in 2021 to serve as Executive Director.

Throughout his career, Ryan has worked as a teacher, advisor, and school leader, always focusing on progressive education, project-based learning, and creating safe, inclusive spaces where students can thrive. He brings positivity, energy, and a genuine care for building community at Voyageurs. Whether it’s through innovative programs, restorative practices, or simply taking the time to connect with students and families, Ryan is committed to making school a place where every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

Outside of school, Ryan values time with his two children, Hazel and Milo, and their dogs, cats, and chickens. He enjoys being outdoors—camping, biking, skateboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding in the mountains, and spending time on the water. He also has a passion for traveling and playing music.
