About Brad
High School English
Bradley Scott became a teacher in 1999 after realizing that a degree in poetry wouldn’t feed a family. He came to the profession honestly–after substitute teaching for three years he took a position through Americorps organizing low-income residents to advocate for better living conditions. But he missed the students. Hearing this, a teacher friend informed him, “Maybe you’re a teacher.”
Before becoming a teacher, Brad has worn many other hats: comedy traffic school instructor, short-order cook, wildland firefighter, cashier, dishwasher, gardener and camp counselor. He loved some of these jobs, but he believes passionately in literacy. As a teacher he considers it his part to ensure students can read and reason well enough to vote responsibly. More importantly, though, good language skills are necessary to get those jokes Disney sticks in its movies just for the parents, as well as a whole world of adult communication just beyond their comprehension.
