About The Program
The Voyageurs Expeditionary School Indigenous Education Program is designed to meet the educational and cultural needs of our Indigenous students, who make up close to 75% of our student population. Our Indigenous Education Program is funded by two grants, the Minnesota Department of Education American Indian Education Aid grant (MDE AIE), as well as the Office of Indian Education Federal Grant (EASIE OIE). These grant allowances are based on the number of self-identifying Native students in the district. These funds allow us to have an Indigenous Education Program Coordinator, Kwe Humphrey. Kwe oversees the grant narrative and budget applications, with support from the Native Student Family Committee. Much of the budget covers culturally relevant curriculum implementation, instructional support, post-secondary support, family events, as well as supplies and materials for cultural arts and traditional harvesting practices.

VES Native Student Family Committee
(NSFC) Mission & Vision
The mission of the Voyageurs Expeditionary School Native Student Family Committee is to engage families and cultivate opportunities for students that reflect their unique culture, strengths, and ways of knowing and being.
Our vision is to support Indigenous students in identifying, discovering, exploring, and gaining proficiency in their traditional ways of knowing and being, which, in turn, will help them find their individual gifts and cement their sense of belonging in the community.
